Mission

Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) envisages a healthy ecosphere where people experience and respect natural ecosystems. We will achieve this by:

1. Protecting Canada's wild ecosystems in parks, wilderness and similar natural areas, preserving the full diversity of habitats and their species.

2. Promoting awareness and understanding of ecological principles and the inherent values of wilderness through education, appreciation and experience.

3. Encouraging individual action to accomplish these goals; working cooperatively with government, First Nations, business, other organizations and individuals in a consensus-seeking manner, wherever possible.

Why 2020?

We can stop the sixth mass extinction if we protect approximately 50% of the 846 ecoregions that provide habitat for all of Earth's biodiversity. That means finding leaders and organizations around the world willing to align exisiting efforts around protecting and interconnecting nature in the region.

Our Work

Our vision is to keep at least half of Canada’s public land and water wild — forever. We focus on protecting many important areas of Canada’s wilderness. Find out about the issues we work on below, or click on a link to the right to more about where we work.
